This project is located in a planned, residential community along the Southern California Coastline. This community reflects a diverse and eclectic array of architecture and landscape design. Our design responds to this context with forms and materiality of a decidedly modernist ethos.

Panoramic coastal views are available from the upper- level envelope of this site. Therefore, the principal living spaces are located at the upper level. A grand, inviting staircase provides a gesture of invitation leading to the entry. Upon entry, a linear stone wall and continuous skylight above, invite a play of light and shadow as one moves toward the ocean, through the various interior, communal
spaces. This interior procession culminates in an expansive terrace containing an elevated, infinity edge pool. The amorphic geometry of the pool reflects the natural, coastal topography.

This project demonstrates that on a difficult and complex site, it is possible to fulfill the rigorous requirements of the client while engaging in a spirited and robust dialogue with the site.
